For a few weeks in March, we were delighted to welcome Amy Costello as our latest intern. During her time with us, she researched website design trends and how the Radiator site has incorporated these.
Throughout my time at Radiator, I was keen to research and write my article about website design trends.
There are many aspects to creating the ‘perfect website’, so I’ve picked five design trends that I think should be used in every website and how Radiator has lead the way in showcasing these.

Experimental Navigation
Experimental navigation moves away from traditional dropdown menus, offering a more dynamic and exciting user experience. It introduces creativity and surprise, keeping users engaged as they explore the site in new ways. This type of navigation fully immerses users in the website by incorporating pictures, videos, graphics, and interactive elements. Radiator's website takes on experimental navigation techniques on their website to enhance user engagement and optimise the browsing experience.
In particular, Radiator’s use of experimental navigation offers a unique browsing experience that strays from traditional navigation models. This approach reflects their commitment to experimentation and learning, allowing them to better understand user behaviour while providing a more personalised and flexible journey. By combining creative design with experimental navigation, they not only showcase their digital marketing expertise but also provide a hands-on demonstration of how innovative web strategies can drive higher engagement and conversions. The website features animations that activate as users scroll through the page. These animations serve as visual interest and navigation cues, leading users to explore more content in a natural and engaging way.
Parallax Scrolling
Parallax scrolling gives the website an almost 3D effect, the website background moves slower than the foreground resulting in a 3D-like effect, all based on illusion. It plays on the users visual perception, it makes the website radiant and can keep users around for longer.
Radiator uses parallax scrolling on its website to create a visually engaging and immersive user experience. As users scroll through the pages, the background and foreground elements move at different speeds, creating a sense of depth and layering. This effect draws users deeper into the content, making the website feel more dynamic and interactive. For example, as users scroll through the website, the images pop up as you scroll, while text and other elements move at a different speed, giving the illusion of a 3D effect. This technique not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the site but also guides the users focus, highlighting key information and sections. Parallax scrolling also contributes to a seamless flow of content. It encourages users to continue scrolling, as the effect keeps the experience visually stimulating. The layered movement helps break up content and provides a more engaging way to present information, keeping users interested without overwhelming them with static visuals.

Playful Cursors
Playful cursors are becoming an increasingly popular trend in web design. They can enhance the user experience by adding a modern and engaging touch to a website, but if not executed well, they can also slow down the site or feel unnecessary.
Radiator incorporates playful cursors on its website to enhance user interaction and add a layer of fun to the browsing experience. Instead of the standard arrow cursor, the cursor is a red circle that changes when hovering over interactive elements like buttons, links, and images. This subtle yet effective use of playful cursors grabs attention and encourages users to explore further. For example, when hovering over certain clickable areas, the cursor transforms into a larger circle with words in the centre like 'watch' or 'grab', giving users a clear indication that they can interact with the element. The transformation of the cursor serves as a visual cue, guiding users through the website’s content in a more intuitive way. It adds an element of surprise and delight, which enhances the overall user experience by making the website feel more personalised and enjoyable. This small but impactful detail helps reinforce Radiators branding as a forward-thinking digital agency, turning a simple browsing task into an engaging, interactive experience that invites users to stay on the site longer.

Colour Trends
Colour trends are vital in web design. These trends often incorporate bold, contrasting colours, soft gradients, and subtle tones to enhance user experience, guide attention to key elements, and reflect current design aesthetics, making websites feel fresh and in tune with contemporary styles.
Radiator's website effectively follows contemporary colour trends, using a vibrant, modern palette to create an engaging and visually cohesive experience. The site integrates bold, eye-catching colours that reflect the latest design trends, giving the website a fresh and dynamic look. Soft gradients, contrasting hues, and subtle colour transitions are used throughout the interface, creating a sense of depth and energy. These design choices not only align with current web aesthetics but also guide the user's attention to key content and different buttons. The website’s colour scheme is well-thought-out, with a balance between neutral backgrounds and pops of vibrant colours that draw attention to important elements. For example, call-to-action buttons, navigation links, and icons are highlighted in bold, accent colours, ensuring they stand out against the more subtle background. This colour contrast enhances usability by making it easier for users to navigate and interact with the site. The strategic use of colour not only enhances visual appeal but also improves the overall user experience, making the website feel fresh, modern, and in tune with current digital design trends.

Minimalistic Design/White Space
The minimalistic design gives a website a clean, uncluttered layout that prioritises simplicity and ease of navigation. By leaving ample space between elements, this design enhances readability, directs attention to key content, and has a sense of openness.
Another web design trend that Radiator incorporates is minimalistic design with plenty of white space. This approach focuses on a minimalistic layout that make the content the focal point. By using white space between sections, text, and images, the website achieves a sense of openness and clarity. This minimalist approach enhances the overall user experience by allowing visitors to easily digest information without feeling overwhelmed by excessive content or visuals. The simplicity of the design, combined with clear typography and well-organised content, ensures that the website feels modern and easy to navigate. Additionally, this design trend aligns with a user-first mindset, prioritising usability and seamless interaction. Radiator reflects their commitment to effective communication while also demonstrating how to create visually appealing and user-friendly websites that prioritise content and functionality over unnecessary embellishments.
